Long before the founding of It Works! Global, Mark was a high school teacher and basketball coach in the small town of Allendale, Michigan. Cindy was a stay-at-home mom with their three children.  They were  struggling to make ends meet financially.

“Reiki,” a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Force Energy,” is an ancient Oriental healing art that uses a non-invasive touch to promote balance and healing within the body, as well as in the mind and spirit. Why does reiki work?

Her interest in natural health therapies began in 1993 after 20 years of struggling with her daughter’s illnesses only to find that the allopathic medicine therapies were causing more problems than the underlying illnesses themselves. This search for a better, less-toxic way led her first to energy medicine, with Reiki and Kinesiology. In 1998 she left the corporate world to open Carolina Reiki Institute, Inc. for the purpose of extending to others the benefits of receiving Reiki treatments as well as to train individuals and practitioners in treating others. Then in 2000 she returned to school to pursue a wider range of knowledge, receiving her Doctorate in natural health in 2003.  She continues to study and keep abreast of natural healing methods in order to help clients in ways that are tailored to their specific needs.

After more than 25 years of working in the corporate and legal sectors, I moved to Columbia, South Carolina for what I now know was the beginning of my new life. Having received massage therapy for many years, I knew well its many benefits. Studying massage was a career that called me for several months, so I enrolled in the South Carolina Massage Therapy Institute and in 1999 became Certified by the National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and licensed by the State of South Carolina as a full-time massage therapist.

My previous work was quite rewarding, yet none did I love more than being a massage therapist. Helping people to relax, relieve chronic pain and improve their total well-being is a gift to me. After beginning my practice at home in 1999 and working here for a couple of years, I worked at Elante Day Spa in Lexington S.C. for nearly 10 years. In October 2010, I brought my practice back to Chapin S.C. Lakeside Tranquility is open by appointment only Tuesday through Friday and two Saturdays each month.
